Thank you'sFirstly I would like to thank a few people for their support and assistance in making World Wide War happen in 2009. 1. Mark Morrison for handing the reins over and spruking the event via the mel40k mailing list. awesome work as usual. 2. Ian Hutchinson and Haydn Steel, for working out the Monash Uni end of the workings which I must say worked out really smoothly from my point of view, considering my own experiences with dealing with the monash establishment (Except for directions, sorry Mark) 3. Maria for taking my saturday shift at Realm Of Legends, (All bar one of my staff for playing in the tournament, you buggers ;) ;)) 4. John for running the bar and keeping your whistles wet. 5. Allistair for keeping you all well and truly fed, I have raw sausages in my fridge that say we must have kept Ryland D. fed up good and proper. 6. Ari for being Allistairs able assistant 7. Craig for entering the scores into Overlord 8. Mike Constantinou for taking the photos on the day. 9. Overlord for being the booty, what a champion TO'ing tool 10. My midgets for having another day without me around 11. Ringwood Wargames Club for their terrain and Rick McKay for helping get it there and making it look pretty on the tables. 12. 40K radio, Spencer and the team that came up with the initiative in the first place. 13. Again Maria for putting up with all the extra hours required to get these sorts of events up and running. Sponsors and helpful mo-fosRealm Of Legends - Massive prize support (If I don't talk us up someone else will, see the prize list below) Monash Wargammers Massive, for thier contribution to the community, they poured an event grant into this event and you guys got all the benefit, awesome work guys, the most elastic budget I have ever seen but awesome. Stewarts Trophies - awesome custom trophies one e-mail a rough description and bouyya, magic looking custom trophies.
The run down of the dayWell, what a fun yet exhausting day, 32 attendees all turned up almost on time by the official clock. We had 12 tables of terrain supplied by Ringwood Wargames club (www.rwg.org.au), the support these guys give the whole community in Melbourne rocks. All the other tables were supplied by players, 20 tables in all to rotate the games through, all with top quality terrain. The day begins with a bit of pirate music, some truly dodgy sea shanties, and there was almost a mutiny. But as it is International talk like a pirate day we persist with the Pirates of the Carribean Soundtrack, these tunes are a bit more on the heavy side and stave off the mutiny (Mostly).
Round 1 - The Mission was "Punch In", a kill points mission with modified kill points, additional scoring was required in the form of Victory Points. This goes fairly smoothly, a few queries regarding the kill points, but we get through that. All around, the games were played in good spirit, no pistols or cutlasses drawn. No one forced to walk the plank.
Lunch and Army presentation time, Wow it still amazes me everytime I walk around tourneys in Melbourne about the standard of armys we get, (I need to pick up my game) Keep up the good work guys the armies and the terrain are the eye candy so keep it up.
Lunch, well I am tipping no one came away hungry from Allistair's dining experience, great work dude, and great pirate spirit with the outfit.
Round 2 - Ends up hosting the battle between the first and second place winners, a close fought battle resulting in Mat creeping in with a victory. (This would be a good time to remind people to check your battle points, no TO or team is infalible, we caught the error at the last minute thanks to Mat and Leigh) Again the games went smoothly, minimal queries on the missions, although most of us had forgotten the finer details of victory points, but we got through. Victory points were escalated in this scenario "Ustream" which was an objective grab with a twist, see the attachements on this article for the missions.
Round 3 - The games were hard fought but the fun was evident when our last place getter (Revised as per the results, thanks Brad for being a good sport about it, don't worry we will all remember you came last) got thumped again, but smiled doing it. Talk about giving the cabin boy a hard time. The last scenario "That's a wrap" was another objective grab that had super escalated victory points and a funky rule for skyping, a teleport move with victory point bonuses at a risk, I know one player who rolled doubles for 5 skypes in a row and lost all the squads to the warp. hehehe, well from here anyway.
With help from all the players we had a swift pack up, resetting the room ready for presentations, awesome work. With the help of the awesome tournament scoring software OVERLORD we managed to be ready to present in almost half an hour from the last game - (On this front, I have finally been given the end of the stick which proves wargamers can't write well or fillout simple forms. Ahh what can I say, I myself will be really carefull from now on and will apologise to any TO's whose tournament I have been a part of and poorly filled out forms, RANT end)
Presentations went smooth not too much talking like a pirate, but enough to justify the day. The Monash club added a few extra personalised prizes, Last place was awarded a French Flag, as a reminder of the internationally recognised symbol for surrender. The player that came 17th was awarded the "Ryland Hodgson 51st Percentile award", for the dude who didn't make the top half, because Ryland never has and didn't again. The TO group also chose their favourite general model from all the armies and the winner was awarded the "Ian Hutchison Memorial Hero Award, Because fighting a fire is just like charging a german machine gun nest" This was an engraved onto a hip flask, and was really well received.
The other prize that we slotted in was "Best Terrain, this is becoming a hotly contested part of the scene and will be an ongoing part of the reason the terrain at all our Melbourne events will maintain its greatness.
Now to the real results, which I have summarised here, Note some people will notice some changes compared to what happened on the day. I won't shy away from the fact that we almost made a major mistake, I thank Leigh and Mat for pointing it out at the time so that it could be fixed. The one thing that was missed was the error that finally decided last place, Unfortunately the last game that was entered into the database did not get excepted into the database before generating the final results. The results listed here are as stands, thanks go to Brad for being gracious in our stuff up, and to Luca for not looking too shocked when awarded the French Flag on the day. All place getters picked up a nice custom World Wide War Austalia Trophy and certifcates for the 40Kradio top two places plus the prizes.

Again thanks to all of the players who made this an enjoyable TO experience for me and hopefully the rest of the team. I suggest you all have a listen to 40k radio at some point to get an idea of what Spencer is about, and what the show can add to your 40k experience. Thanks again for your support, without interest from the players there would be no tournaments and I believe the Melbourne tournament scene breathes life and energy into the hobby.
Please note that the scores that were logged with World Wide War were checked and match these final results. Photos and global results will be posted on the website real soon.
"PUNCH IN"
Cheers
